The unions and associations of PIA employees under the banner of Joint Action Committee of Pakistan International Airlines Employees (JACPIAE) have announced that they would stage protest against what they said conspiracies being hatched to grab the assets of national airline under the slogan of privatisation, a spokesman for JACPIAE said in a statement on Saturday.
"The Joint Action Committee will approach Supreme Court to take notice of the conspiracy and intervene to end the adhocism further strengthened by creating aviation division," the spokesman said. JACPIAE stated that PIA's success will be a serious threat to the market share of all private airlines in Pakistan as they are in direct competition with the national flag carrier. "Even now PIA has the best infrastructure in every aspect like organisational strength, assets, network, engineering, maintenance, and capable human resource", he said regretting that only the top tier's inefficiency becomes a stigma for all the hard working employees of the airline.
It is sad, he adds, how the governments have been promoting nepotism for years in appointing heads of the national airline and they always blamed overstaffing of the airline for all ills of the airline. He said that one of the major reasons in the downfall of the national flag carrier is the appointments, at the top and not at the bottom as generally conceived, that are made at the whim of the government, be it political or otherwise.
He advised the PML-N government to give management control to PIA employees and in return take a profit making business entity in next few years, as the employees of the airline have their future attached they will not repeat mistakes of the past top managements.-PR
