The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has sought proposals from all the city markets' associations for improving traffic plying on the roads. The decision to seek suggestions from the business community was taken by the LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar on the recommendation of the Convenor LCCI Standing Committee on Traffic Police Liaison Kashif Anwar.
The LCCI President was of the view that since Lahore had become centre of economic activities and was fast attaining the status of the Shopping Mall of Pakistan, therefore, the private sector should play its role for a smooth and hassle-free traffic movement as well. He said that the business community believes that Punjab government had already spent sufficient amount of funds on the development of infrastructure to bring it at par with other international cities.
Kashif Anwar said that the committee was working on modern lines and gathering all necessary data about areas prone to traffic jams. He said that the committee was also identifying reasons behind traffic mess at certain city points during peak hours. He said that there was no doubt in it that the traffic police was doing its best to turn the city traffic friendly and are conducting various programmes for creating awareness about traffic laws. He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry would extend every possible help to the traffic police in this regard.
