Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman has said that three Drug Testing Laboratories (DTL) are being established at Multan, Rawalpindi and Lahore besides two Food Testing Laboratories will be setup at Faisalabad and Rawalpindi and the Punjab government has allocated Rs 150 million for this purpose.
He also said the government will ensure supply of standardised medicines to the people and the relevant laws will be strictly implemented. He expressed these views while addressing party workers, doctors and a delegation of local chemists here on Saturday, disclosed an official. The Minister said improper storage facilities and violations of hygienic principles were causing a number of dangerous diseases.
He said the elements playing with the lives of the innocent people will not be spared. The government will leave no stone unturned for the provision of standardised and quality medicines to the masses, he maintained. He asked the doctors community to launch a comprehensive campaign with new devotion against communicable and non-communicable diseases, especially in rural areas.
"The best approach to make the people and future generation healthy is to save the children and mother from preventable diseases, as the eradication of small pox from our country about 40 years ago has proved that vaccine can help in eradication of diseases. The major focus is on protecting the health of people through strengthening of Primary Health Care and Disease Preventive Programmes," he added. Meanwhile, Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman has directed the WASA and TMA officials to remain vigilant for the drainage of rainy water during monsoon season.
He issued these directions during his visit to Ek-Moria Pul and Chowk Nakhuda after the rain. The Minister inspected the process of sanitation and removal of garbage in various parts of the city. The sanitation workers, WASA and TMA officials were also present on the occasion.
