Former British MP of Labour party Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, after surrendering his UK nationality, arrived here on Saturday to take an important assignment to be given by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar is among those candidates who are in the run for the slot of Punjab Governor vacated after resignation of Makhdoom Syed Ahmed Makhdoom.
The others in the run for this slot are: Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz, Senator Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khosa and Senator Rafique Rajwana. However, final decision in this regard is to be taken by PM Nawaz Sharif. Talking to media soon after his arrival at Lahore Airport, Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said the decision regarding appointment of Punjab Governor would be taken by PM Nawaz Sharif. However, he said he would fulfil his responsibility, if chosen for any position in Pakistan. Sarwar said he had worked in the fields of health and education in Pakistan but now indented to serve the people in the field of politics, adding he wanted to do something for the country as well as nation.
He said Pakistani nation possessed huge potential and deserved to get dignified status in the comity of nations, adding that in the floods, Pakistani nation showed unity and tackled huge devastation. Answering a question, Chaudhry Sarwar said British police worked independently and without any political influence, added that British PM could not even transfer a police constable. He said Scotland was not facing any pressure in Altaf Hussein case and decision would be as per merit of the case.
