Authorities imposed curfew in the Badgam district on Saturday after the death of a woman who was injured by an Indian policeman on Tuesday. Fifty-five years old Fatima of Dadina area of Badgam, who was critically injured after she was hit in the head by an Indian policeman with his rifle, succumbed to her injuries at Soura Institute of Medical Sciences in occupied Srinagar early in the morning.
According to Kashmir Media Service, when her body reached Dalina, the people took to the streets and staged demonstrations against her killing. They demanded a murder case against the involved policeman. Family and relatives of the woman told media persons that the policeman had beaten her without any reason when she was standing with other women.
The death of the woman has led to a fresh wave of tension in the district. Over two dozen villages of the district have been reeling under curfew without break since the outbreak of sectarian clashes on Tuesday. The All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and other Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, in their separate statements expressed grief over the death of the woman.
