Secretary General, Jamaat-i-Islami Liaqat Baloch has said that the PML(N) had negated its stance on the Karachi situation by securing MQM's support for its presidential candidate. Addressing an Iftar party in the city, he said that the announcements being made by the Minister for Interior for restoring peace in Karachi and his assurances to the Sindh government for every help, on his regard had remained in the middle.
He said, the government's gestures to the MQM, a terrorist organisation involved in target killings, extortion and abductions for ransom, for inclusion in the federal government was not only shameful but also the worst example of selfishness. Liaqat Baloch said that before inviting the MQM to the federal government, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should just go through the joint stance on the MQM in the invitation for APC convened by him (Sharif) in London.
He said that the steps being taken by the government in connection with the presidential elections had created doubts about the proposed multi party conference for national security. Liaqat Baloch said that the JI would support the PTI candidate for the presidency. He said the decision was taken after consultation with the JI MPAs from Khyber P.
Liaqat Baloch said the JI had desired a joint presidential candidate from the opposition but added that the PPP had decided to boycott the election which was its right. He said that although the presidential election was being held in accordance with the constitution, the decisions of the Election Commission, the ruling party and the Supreme Court had tainted the fairness of the election due to which the government party president would face tough time at the time of the Presidents address to the new parliament. He condemned the killings in Parachinar and Hangu and expressed full sympathies with the bereaved families. He said the new government had failed to protect the life and property of the citizens and it was not taking any serious step to curb terrorism.
