Convenor Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Standing Committee on Halal Meat's Nasib Ahmed Saifi welcoming the government's crackdown against electricity and gas pilferers have urged the government to deal with such elements with an iron hand and no leniency should be exhibited to make this drive a success.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, Nasib Ahmad Saifi said that loadshedding of both electricity and gas had become a chronic problem of our country hurting all segments of the society whether it is domestic consumers or commercial and industrial users. He said Industry especially was badly hurt due to load shedding including export oriented units.
Talking about halal meat processing and export sector, he said load shedding and gas shortage bad badly hurt this sector. He said that the government should manage the gas or electricity saved through campaign against pilferers in a way that it should be diverted to industry especially of export-oriented units to earn precious foreign exchange for the country.
He said that in recent past their sector had also requested the government that it wanted to arrange fuel and power at its own and for the same purpose a Germany company is willing to provide 0.5 mega watt of electricity by compressing bio-gas with the latest technology. Raw material for bio-gas is being produced in such a huge quantity in Abattoirs of this sector and a lot of it is being wasted.
Nasib Ahmad Saifi requested that the government should contribute 50 percent of total expenses of installing this plant. After installation of this project this sector can not only provide electricity and gas to meat processing factories for next 25 years but also can provide to the government. It will also help enhancing exports by two to three times, he observed.-PR
