The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore observed dengue eradication day on Saturday and started an anti-dengue campaign on the directions of vice-chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha. The Dengue Control Committee led by Dr Kamran Ashraf arranged various activities including a walk on the campus. About 50 samples of water were collected from suspected sites on the campus and checked in lab but no trace of dengue larva was found.
The dengue awareness walk was started from the main building of the UVAS and taking a round of the campus ended at the main gate. A seminar was also arranged on the occasion in which experts stressed on preventives measures against dengue mosquitoes and disease. The vice-chancellor stressed on collective and timely efforts to avoid dengue spread. He stressed that cleanliness be ensured on the campus as well as the residential areas so that dengue larva would find no breeding place on the campus. Professor Dr Kamran Ashraf, Professor Dr Arif Khan, Dr Aneela Durrani, Dr Oneeb also spoke about various aspects of dengue menace. They also advised adoption of various standard protective measures against mosquitoes. Dengue awareness material was also distributed on the occasion.
