Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed that foolproof security arrangements should be made on the occasion of Youm-e-Shahadat of Hazrat Ali (A.S), Juma-tul-Wida, Youm-e-Alquds and Eid-ul-Fitr. He said that law enforcement agencies should remain fully alert for ensuring peaceful atmosphere and protection of life and property of the people and maintain a close liaison with each other. The CM also directed to constitute a cabinet committee headed by Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan to review the security arrangements on these occasions.
He said that the committee will visit entire province and review the security arrangements made by police and district administration. He was presiding over a high level meeting for reviewing the law and order situation in the province here on Saturday which was attended by Minister for Local Government and Law Rana Sanaullah Khan, Minister for Environment Colonel Shuja Khanzada (Retd.), Chief Secretary, IG Police, Secretaries of Home, Auqaf, Information departments and senior officers of concerned departments.
Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz said that nothing can be more important than maintenance of law and order. He said that earlier, all resources have been provided for this purpose and will be provided in future as well. He said that the country is passing through a critical juncture of history and is facing menace of terrorism. He said that we all have to control lawlessness as the secret of our existence lies in it.
The CM said the present situation demands that law enforcement agencies should leave no stone unturned in performance of their duties. He directed that foolproof security arrangements should be made on important occasions and elite force should be deputed at all important markets on "chand raat". Shahbaz Sharif said that police should also remain fully alert at the time of Iftar and keep a vigilant eye on suspects. He ordered that proper arrangements of Iftar should be made for officials performing their duties. He said that funds have already been released for this purpose and if required, more funds should also be provided immediately.
He said that four tiers security arrangements should be made on important occasions and close liaison should be maintained with intelligence agencies. He said that monitoring of important places and rallies should be made through video cameras and Shops and Security Ordinance should be implemented strictly. He directed that Auqaf Department should ensure uninterrupted light at the mazars of Hazrat Data Gunj Bakhsh, Bibi Pak Daman and others.
