North Korea defeated China 1-0 in their final East Asian Cup women's match on Saturday, putting themselves in a position to win the regional event for the first time. Ri Un-Hyang scored 90 seconds into the game at Seoul's Jamsil Olympic Stadium, and the team fended off China for the next 90 minutes for their second win of the tournament.
North Korea ended the round-robin event on seven points, while China finished with three points. Later on Saturday, South Korea are scheduled to host Japan, the two-time defending East Asian Cup champions. South Korea lost their first two games, while Japan beat China and tied North Korea for four points after two matches. It was the first trip by the North Korean women's football team to South Korea since 2005.
