Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that measures are being taken on war footing to resolve energy crisis. He said that work has been started expeditiously with the co-operation of China on the projects of low-cost power generation through alternative resources and the problem of loadshedding will be resolved for coming up to the expectations of the masses.
He expressed these views while talking to assembly members belonging to various districts here on Sunday. Those who met the Chief Minister included Junaid Anwar, Syed Waseem Akhtar, Rai Mansab Ali Khan, Chaudhary Shamshad Ali Khan, Sheikah Alla-ud-Din and Kanwal Nuaman.
Talking to the elected representatives, the Chief Minister said that besides gap in the demand and supply of electricity, theft of gas and power is also a serious issue. He said that some influential persons are involved in electricity theft but they will be made an example as they are committing a crime against the nation. He said that on the instructions of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the elements involved in the theft of electricity and gas are being dealt with sternly and a crackdown has been launched on gas and electricity thieves in Punjab. He said that assembly members should play a leading role in the drive against electricity and gas thieves.
The Chief Minister further said that essential items as well as fruits and vegetables are being provided to the masses at a concessionary rate at 350 Ramazan bazaars set up in the province under Ramazan package and instructions have been issued to district and divisional administrative officers to ensure supply of quality food items to the masses at the fixed rates in Ramazan bazaars.
Referring to South Punjab, the Chief Minister said that a sum of 93 billion rupees has been allocated in the current budget for various development projects in this region. Similarly, he said, PML-N government has allocated more funds than the ratio of population of South Punjab for the development of this area. He said that the priorities announced in the budget of the new fiscal year reflect the manifesto of PML-N and the vision of Punjab government.
The Chief Minister directed assembly members to maintain a close contact with the people for resolving their problems on priority basis. Assembly members informed the Chief Minister about development schemes and public welfare projects in their respective areas.
