Lyariites belonging to both Baloch and Kutchi communities have expressed their absolute support for government efforts to abolish "No Go Areas" in Lyari. In the fourth of the series of Lyari Peace Committee meetings organised by Commissioner of Karachi, as per directives of Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the representatives of the two communities said grip of criminals and gangsters in certain parts of the city's oldest locality must be brought to an end.
They said that there was no dispute between the two communities, however, criminals are playing havoc with the lives of the residents in general on artificially created difference factually meant to promote criminal activities in Lyari. Representatives of the two communities suggested that all chowkis and enclosures of police, rangers in Lyari must be, from now-on, established after taking into confidence the residents.
They assured the city administration and provincial government officials of their co-operation to the police and rangers in restoration of peace and normalcy in the area. They, however demanded that the law enforcers must necessarily take into consideration the sensitivities and sensibilities of the communities living in Lyari.
The administration was also assured that the two communities will never support any gangster or criminal groups active in the area. The meeting chaired by Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui was attended by Zafar Baloch, Mohammad Afzal, M B Kamran and Habib Hussain as the representatives of Baloch community of Lyari. Kutchi community was represented by M Ibrahim Ahmed, Haji Younus Soomro and Maqbool Sarwar Hingoro.
The meeting was also attended by DIG-Police (South), Dr Ameer Shaikh, SSP Tariq Razzakh, Ranger's DSR Wasim, Additional Deputy Commissioner (I) of district South, Ayaz Solangi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (II) - South, Mohammad Khan Rind. Shoaib said concerted and conscious efforts will continued to be made by the administration to ensure that criminal and gangsters may not taken any advantage of even minute discrepancies.
