Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) on Thursday urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to give more time for filing of sales tax return for June 2013. In a letter sent to Shahid Hussain Asad Member (IR Policy), the KTBA said taxpayers were facing hardships in filing tax return for June as issues related to web portal still exist. "Therefore, it is requested for further extension in filing of ST return for the month of June 2013," KTBA said in the letter.
Although the Board had earlier extended the date for filing of June's ST return till July 29, 2013, the taxpayers as per Sales Tax General Order (STGO) 16/2013 dated April 11, 2013, become 'Inactive', it said. According to STGO 16/2013, the taxpayers go 'Inactive', if the return of a tax period is not filed by the end of calendar month in which the due date of return falls. Resultantly, taxpayers are unable to file their returns, due to deactivation by Pral on the web portal of FBR. The KTBA has requested the Board to restrict Pral to deactivate taxpayers until the issues are settled.
