At least seven persons including two activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were killed in separate incidents of violence, here on Thursday. According to police and rescue sources, armed men opened indiscriminate fire at Jodia Bazar area that left three persons including an activist of MQM Shakeel killed while three others injured. All the bodies and injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for legal formalities and treatment.
Acting In-charge Kharadar police station Azam Khan said the culprits belonged to banned Peoples' Amn Committee (PAC) were involved in this incident. He said deceased Shakeel hid himself for months as he was on the hit list of the banned PAC.
However, as Shakeel came to the area to meet his friends, the banned PAC men noticed his presence and consequently, some 10-12 persons belonging to banned PAC reached Hassan Son's building where he was sitting with one of his friends.
The assailants sprayed a volley of bullets on both, with the result Shakeel along with two passers-by died on the spot while his friend Shoaib who is also an activist of MQM got injured in the firing. He said the deceased was joint unit in charge of UC3 B unit. Following the said incident, tension prevailed in the area where all commercial and social activities were suspended.
Similarly, another man was gunned down at Super Highway area. Police said the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained while the body was moved to Edhi Morgue for identification.
Another MQM man namely Syed Farhan Kazmi, 28 was killed while his associate Hammad Mustafa sustained injuries in a drive-by shooting at Gulistan-e-Johar in the limits of Sharah-e-Faisal police station. Police said Farhan was active worker of Unit-A.
A cop namely Ashfaq son of Karamat was gunned down in the limits of Korangi Industrial area police station. Police said Karamat was serving as an accountant in SSP office and added that he was killed when he offered resistance during a robbery bid. A bullet-riddled body was recovered near Mewa Shah Graveyard in the limits of Pak Colony police station. Police said the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained while the body was shifted to Edhi Morgue for identification.
