Capital City Police has foiled a terrorism bid by capturing an explosive laden motorcar and two accused on Frontier Road in the jurisdiction of Police Station Mathani last night. Talking to media, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rural, Peshawar, Shafiullah Khan said the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Liaquat Ali Khan had received a tips of the entry of explosive laden vehicles in the city.
The CCPO under the supervision of SSP (Operations) constituted a team comprising SP Rural, Shafiullah Khan, DSP, Saddar Circle, and SHO, Mathani, who along with a heavy contingent of police arranged foolproof checking of the vehicles. During the checking, he said the police stopped motorcar bearing No 3563 and recovered 100 kilogram explosive, 600 yards safety fuse, 800 detonators and other material. He said that two accused Anar Gul son of Saleh Mohammad and Kifayat son of Sher Rehman had been arrested.
He said a special team had been constituted for investigation from the accused while the CCPO had also announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the police cops participated in the action. To a question regarding securing arrangements on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, the SP Rural said that border areas with tribal region to prevent the entry of suspects and guarantee security in the city.
He said security at entry points of the city had been tightened and no one was allowed to enter without proper check. He said police deployed at those points spending very tough life while the Provincial Police Officer (PPO) and Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) himself were visiting and monitoring the situation.
He said in this connection, the police was also maintaining close liaison with Pakistan army and Frontier Corps (FC). He said for the purpose of security on Eid-ul-Fitr, the police preparing record of all criminals to launch crackdown against them at the level of police stations, adding in that connection, police stations had been directed for submission of performance reports, which bearing positive results. The SP rural said on the directives of CCPO, the police was carrying search operation on roads and as well as in the suburban areas of the city. He said that one proclaimed offender was killed in an encounter with police.
He said police had received a tips about the presence of group headed by pro-claimed offender Ansar in Badhber area. The group, he said was involved in extortion demanding letters to the people and had made the lives of the people miserable. He said that on finding police raid, one of the outlaws identified as Khaista Khan, son of Abdul Haleem, opened indiscriminate firing and the police party remained unhurt miraculously. However, in the exchange of firing the accused, resident of Urmar was killed. The police officer said that rural police during action against outlaws and criminals arrested 16 proclaimed offenders including some wanted under 7 ATA in Urmar area.
