The district administration has started Peri-Urban Planning with the technical support of urban unit, Punjab, and this task would be completed within 3 months period with the joint efforts of District government Departments. This was disclosed in a meeting held here under chairmanship of DCO, Najam Ahmad Shah. Representative of urban unit Punjab, Waheed Butt, briefed the meeting about the need for planning based on future urban requirements.
Addressing the meeting, DCO said that Faisalabad was a second largest city of Punjab which was expanding rapidly without any planning. He added that it required a very solid strategy to cope with the future challenges. He said that all the development in this populous industrial and commercial city was made under ' ill-planning' and no Master Plan was implemented in letter and spirit which resulted haphazard growth causing environmental pollution and mush-room growth of industrial units in residential areas of the city.
He said that the district planning map would be prepared alongwith with separate planning maps of various towns and tehsils with classification and re-classification plan and peri-urban structure plan. DCO further said that under the peri-urban planning, build-up area, peri-urban area and agriculture areas would be defined for future systematic planning in industrial, commercial and housing sector. He explained that after the finalisation of peri-urban planning, no change would be made without prior permission of the competent authority after completion of all the formalities.
He cleared that after the implementation of peri-urban planning project, the SNGPL, Wapda, TMA and other institutions of utility services would be bound to follow these rules in letter and spirit while providing connections for electricity, sui gas and other utility services. He directed the district government departments heads to provide their inputs and future projects so these could be incorporated in this planning.
