Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that besides promoting traditional methods of generation of power, work is also being carried out expeditiously on projects of production of energy from alternative sources and the roadmap evolved for this purpose would yield far reaching results.
He said that Chinese, Turkish as well as several other foreign companies have expressed keen interest in the projects of generation of electricity from coal and solar energy. He welcomed the offer of Turkish group of companies EAE of shifting streetlights to solar energy and expressed the hope that an agreement will soon be signed in this regard after which streetlights of Lahore as well as other big cities of Punjab will be switched over to solar power which will not only result in conservation of electricity but streetlights will continue to operate during load shedding as well.
He was talking to a representative delegation of Turkish group of companies associated with energy sector EAE led by its Chairman Samil Perk, here on Tuesday. Provincial Minister for Energy Sher Ali Khan, secretary energy, technical director, consultants and other officials of the Turk group of companies were also present. Talking on the occasion, the CM said that government has adopted a solid strategy during last two months for controlling energy crisis due to which load shedding has decreased however there is a need to work on this front with commitment and dedication.
He said that revolutionary reforms are being introduced in power sector. He said that circular debt of 480 billion rupees have been repaid in 50 days while it was agreed during the visit of PM to China to cooperate in energy sector. He further said that Chinese and Turkish companies as well as those of various other countries have expressed their interest in co-operation in several projects based on hydel, coal and solar power.
He said that work is being resumed on Nandipur power project and Chinese engineers are coming to Pakistan. He said that Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park is being set up in Cholistan.
Welcoming the visit of the Turk delegation to Pakistan, he said that Pakistan and Turkey are bound together in strong ties of friendship and several Turkish companies have made investment in Punjab. He said that the glorious project of metro bus is a splendid example of friendly relations between Turkey and Pakistan.
He said that Punjab government is taking solid measures for developing solar power sector and installation of solar lights is being made compulsory in new commercial plazas. Chairman of EAE Samil Perk while offering co-operation to Punjab government in switching over streetlights to solar energy expressed his desire for an agreement in this regard. Appreciating the leadership qualities of Punjab CM, he said that Shahbaz Sharif has surprised the whole world by executing metro bus project in a short period of 11 months.
He said that his company is coming to Pakistan not to promote its financial interests but to strengthen the existing friendly relations between the two countries. He said that fraternal ties between Pakistan and Turkey have strengthened during the tenure of PML-N government.
