In the wake of terrorists' attack threats, the Islamabad police have put security on high alert, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sikandar Hayat on Tuesday. Talking to media persons after an Iftar dinner, he said that the intelligence agencies and National Crises Management Cell (NCMC) of Ministry of interior have communicated fresh threats to the police. Police have conducted search operations in the nearby areas of Margallah hills and sensitive areas of the city to avert any untoward incident, he said.
He said that police have started checking of hotels, restaurants, houses and under-construction buildings in the different areas of the city. "The security in the city will be put on high alert till Eidul Fitr", he said. He said that strict directives have been issued to police to conduct effective checking at pickets located in various parts of the city.
The IGP said that Station House Officer (SHOs) of all police stations have been strictly directed to maintain high vigilance in their respective areas and ensure foolproof security. Security of sensitive buildings, including Parliament House, Presidency, Prime Minister Secretariat, Supreme Court and Pak-Secretariat blocks has been beefed up. Police officials in civil uniforms have also been assigned the task to keep vigilance against suspicious elements, he said. Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Sultan Azam Tamuri, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operation Dr Muhammad Rizwan, SSP Traffic Dr Moeen Masood and other senior officials of police were also present on the occasion.
