Afghan refugees: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faces financial, security issues: Khattak
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Pervez Khattak said that the province was being faced huge financial and security issues due to prolonged hosting of Afghan refugees in the province, assured the UNHCR to extend every possible support for voluntarily repatriation of Afghans refugees.
This, he stated while talking to UNHCR head Jacks Frankline here at chief minister house on Wednesday. On the occasion, KP Senior Minister, Sirajul Haq, Secretary Health and other senior officials also present in the meeting. "Efforts are being initiated for voluntarily repatriation of Afghan refugees from the Pakistan, particularly in Jalozai camp in Peshawar, where the data of Afghans were compelling for this purpose, Khattak informed. He further added the government was fully aware about miseries and difficulties of the masses due to establishment of Afghans refugees' camp in Jalozai, in district Nowshera.
Besides the registered Afghan Refugees in KP, Chief Minister said that a large number of unregistered Afghans are also residing in the province, which is putting huge burden on economy of the province, and also posing great for security situation in the province. He emphasised that the need for collecting the data of unregistered Afghans in the KP.
The visiting UNHCR delegation informed that the organisation would collect data of Afghans refugees with assistance of federal and provincial governments and other international organisations in the country. Answering of a question of Chief Minister, about return of Afghans after their repatriation by UNHCR, the delegation replied that it would be only controlled by authorities at the Pak-Afghan border, which is responsibility of federal government.
