The Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad Jamal Mustafa Syed has expressed his displeasure over the worst condition of Liaquat Colony main Nullah, filled with garbage, waste material and establishment of cattle pens along with Nullah has not only chocked the storm drainage but civic drainage also damage completely.
This he expressed while inspecting the Nullah cleaning activities carried out by HMC and functioning of drainage pumping stations of Hyderabad City. Administrator HMC Syed Barkat Rizvi, Assistant Commissioner Headquarter Manzoor Ali Siyal, Deputy Director P&D Lal Dino Mangi, Assistant Commissioner Hyderabad City were accompanied Commissioner during the visit.
Jamal Mustafa said that the drainage net of the city to examine and evaluate the existing condition of the drainage net, functioning of drainage pumping stations and specially the condition of Liaquat Colony Nullah, with view to meet forthcoming monsoon season with success. He said that concerned administration neither informed the actual condition of Liaquat Colony Nullah nor they put their recommendations before him to make it functional and clean earlier to monsoon season. He said that administration briefed him two months before the Nullah would have been cleared now.
The DC ordered inquiry into the matter of Liaquat Colony Nullah and directed to the Administration HMC to conduct impartial inquiry, to ascertain that "as to why district and divisional administrations have not been informed about the actual condition of Liaquat Colony Nullah and its consequences and why it was not cleared before the monsoon season".
He directed that this inquiry must fix the responsibility of the officials and complete the exercise within a week time. He said that de-silting, clearing of Nullah was regular work but here in Hyderabad it looks that this work was pending since years. The DC took notice of the cattle pen and the encroachments on the Nullah that not only has converted the Nullah as narrow but causes of disposal of additional waste material in it. He directed the Assistant Commissioner City for removal of cattle pens and encroachments along with the Nullah.
He said that since the monsoon season was on the door, the management of HMC and WASA must clear their drainage net on war footing basis to avoid from any rain flood like situation in the city. The DC also visited different sewerage pumping stations, including Tulsidas Pumping Station and Hali Road Pumping Station and examined the working of pumping machines and standby generators there. Expressing his apprehensions over the frequent breakdown of power supply and poor performance of Hesco management, the DC said that inefficient performance of Hesco was one of the major factors for low disposal of sewerage.
