The city's markets witnessed huge rush before Eid on Wednesday, though several shop owners reported sale picking up as Eid is drawing nearer. The roads around Tariq Road, Bhadrabad , Samama , Saima Mall , Hadery Market etc were gridlocked with traffic on Tuesday night and Wednesday . Business has also gone very good for restaurants.
Businessmen said there is no estimate of business generated during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid, adding that a rough estimate can be put as much as Rs 70 billion. Well-to-do families are making purchases in big way, while people of middle and lower classes are shopping as per their limited sources.
People with families have been seen visiting markets and shopping plazas, visiting one shop to other to get preferred items of readymade garments, bangles and others on affordable prices. The shops selling Henna, cosmetics, earrings, glittering bangles and colorful dresses are attractive places for young generation. Some of the shopkeepers complained that though there were lot of people around but most of them were doing window shop. Shoe shops, Children's clothing and ladies wear stores said they did good business this season.
