The flood water in the districts of Sialkot and Narowal and hill torrents of D.G. Khan and Rajanpur have inundated more than 100 villages and destroyed standing crops over thousands of acres during past two days. Dozens of villages have been marooned in the flood water after torrential rains in the catchment areas of nullahs and tributaries of the rivers.
According to Flood Warning Division Lahore, Nullahs of River Ravi (Bhed, Deg, Hasri, Bassanter, Bein) and Chenab (Halsi, Daulti, Aik, Palku) attained high flood level on 06 & 07 August bringing vast area under water. Flood reports said that heavy rains in Sialkot, Narowal and Pasroor areas (145 mm) which started on Tuesday night had flooded Nullah Deg and Nullah Palkhu inundating 50 villages and submerging standing crop on thousands of acres of land Irrigation officials in Sialkot said that 5,000 cusecs of water was passing through Nullah Deg. Traffic on Narowal-Pasroor Road was also suspended. The low-lying areas of Narowal also submerged under flood water.
RIVERS POSITION According to Flood Forecasting division, River Indus at Chashma & Taunsa ( water discharge 4,34,000 cusecs and 3,97,000 cusecs respectively) is in medium flood level. River Indus at Tarbela, Kalabagh & Guddu, River Kabul at Nowshera, River Chenab at Khanki & Qadirabad are in low flood level.
WEATHER FORECAST Rain-thundershower is expected at scattered places of upper Punjab (Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha divisions), Quetta, Zhob, Kalat, Hazara, D.I. Khan, D.G Khan division, while at isolated places of Faisalabad, Peshawar, Malakand divisions. Heavy falls are also expected at a few places of Kashmir, Hazara, Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Lahore, Gujranwala divisions.
