Malicious 'Stresspaint' cripples thousands of computers in Pakistan
A recent malicious malware ‘Stresspaint’ has compromised tens of thousands of Facebook accounts around the globe, including Pakistan.
Earlier this week, a threat research group at a cybersecurity service Radware published a blog revealing how the malicious software was collecting credentials from several Facebook users around the globe.
The software has infected over 40,000 computers recently. The group is particularly targeting Facebook page owners as they involve payment methods by manipulating victims with phishing emails to download the disguised paint application.
Two recent bugs are affecting every computer on Earth
In a breakdown of malware by geography, Vietnam is the first country most affected by the malware where as Pakistan was ranked third with 2.237 computers compromised, according to the blogpost.
Since the social media giant has been under critical observation after disclosing that personal data of millions of Facebook users ended up with a British political consultancy firm, the news could yet be another headache for the service.
The malware issue is currently being investigated by the affected company Facebook. “We are investigating these malware findings and we are taking steps to help protect and notify those who are impacted,” company’s communication manager told American newspaper The Hill.
