Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday expressed resentment over delay in local bodies' election in cantonment boards. The apex court had set a deadline of September 15 for conduct of local bodies' polls across the country. During the hearing of the case, the chief justice remarked that polls in cantonment boards were not held during last 14 years.
Additional Defence Secretary told the court that the Prime Minister had to give approval regarding formation of the board whereas response is awaited from GHQ for committee's finalisation. On this, the CJP remarked that it should be made clear if the government is reluctant to hold the elections. He said the court was twice assured of holding local governments elections in cantonment boards but these did not happen. He said the law would take its course if the court was not satisfied on the matter. The court also sought details of funds spent in the cantonment boards during the last 14 years.
