The rupee could not come out of the weak spells versus the dollar on the currency market on Friday, dealers said. The rupee drifted lower by 12 paisa in relation to the dollar for buying at Rs 106.20 and it also lost 15 paisa for selling at Rs 106.25, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee stayed put in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 106.40 and Rs 106.60 respectively, they added. While, the rupee gained 25 paisa against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 142.50 and Rs 142.75 respectively, they said.
In the final Asian trade, the dollar treaded water, holding just below two-week highs against major currencies hit in the previous session on hopeful signals of progress toward averting a possible US debt default.
House leaders were huddled in House Speaker John Boehner's office after presenting their plan for a short-term hike in the debt limit to avoid a potential default to President Barack Obama. The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 61.39, the greenback was at 3.1810 in relation to the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.112 versus the Chinese yuan.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee showed stability and remained unchanged on buying side at Rs 106.50 but lost 25-paisa on selling side at Rs 107.00 on the local currency market on Friday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its day earlier closing of Rs 106.50 and Rs 106.75 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. The dollar observed no change in its buying rate and stayed unchanged at Rs 106.50 while its selling rate was improved to Rs 107.00, the dealers said.
The Pak rupee-pound sterling parity remained unchanged amid low trading activity. The pound was purchased and sold at its Thursday closing of Rs 168.00 and Rs 169.00, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Friday.
The dollar opened at Rs 106.60 for buying and Rs 106.70 for selling against last rate. It observed no change in the second session and closed at Rs 106.60 for buying and Rs 106.70 for selling.
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 169 for buying and Rs 169.50 for selling against same last rate. It closed at the same rate without further change by the end of evening session.
