Ulema Board of Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST), a representative body of the Barelvi school of thought, Friday declared the government's proposed peace process with the Taliban as against the Shariah, saying the government has no right under Shariah to pardon the killers.
According to a statement issued here, the Ulema board comprising Alama Ghufran Mehmood Sialvi, Mufti Mohammad Arif Chishti, Pir Syed Zakir Hussain Shah, Maulana Mujahid Abdul Rasool Khan, Mufti Mohammad Abid Mubarak, Alama Imran Hanfi Naeemi, Mufti Liaqat Ali Rizvi and other religious clerics forwarded their recommendations to the PST chief Sarwat Ejaz Qadri.
The clerics' recommendations stated that Shairah does not allow pardoning any killer in personal capacity "Talks should not be held with the terrorists until bringing them to justice It tantamount to making mockery of the shariah to dug out any reason for killing innocent people", they observed.
The panel of the Ulema declared that Islam does not allow killing of any human being on the basis of religion, colour, caste or creed, adding "those killing innocent people in the name of Islam are involved in Fasad Fil-Arz". Citing Quranic verse, they stated that Islam orders to crush with the use of force any armed mutiny against an Islamic state. They called upon the government not to hold talks with those who are against Islam as well as constitution of the country, rather writ of the state should be established through enforcing law of the land.
They declared suicide attacks as Haram [forbidden] and targeting innocent people, mosques, shrines, graveyards, schools, hospitals, defence installations, children, women, passengers, foreigner guests, members of the minority community and law enforcing agencies strictly forbidden in Islam.
"These activities of the Taliban have given a bad name to Islam, Ulema and seminaries across the world. The Taliban-style Islam is also against the teachings of Islam", the Ulema observed. They also questioned the government and other political parties favouring talks with the Taliban. whether they are ready to guarantee that Taliban would stop attacking members of the other sects and those opposed to their ideology in future?
"The Taliban have virtually refused to recognise the constitution of the country and the state of Pakistan. In such circumstances there is no justification to hold dialogue with them", the clerics further stated. They maintained that it was responsibility of the government and the armed forces to undertake necessary steps to ensure security in the country and abide by the oath they have taken to protect their homeland.
They also expressed dismay for not being invited to the recently held APC and stated that all stakeholders and the victim families should be taken into confidence while formulating strategy to deal with menace of terrorism. They maintained that Taliban could not be trusted hence the funding source should be traced out along with the countries, individuals and institutions providing financial support to the Taliban. They recommended that an effective legislation should be made to root out the sources of indigenous and foreign funding to the militants.
