Provincial Minister for Education and Youth Affairs Punjab, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that the recent price hike due to inflated electricity bills was a logical consequence of the process to attain self-sufficiency as a sovereign, self-determined and independent nation for which we have to give sacrifices for a year or so. After this initial period of distress, the Pakistani nation will emerge as a strong nation.
Addressing at the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected office-bearers of Employees Welfare Association, here on Saturday , at the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore, the minister elaborated the genuine causes of recent price hike by saying that the present government has not enhanced the cost of production of electricity and the rate of electricity purchase from the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) has not been raised but the unjustifiable subsidy given to the prosperous segments of society on electricity billing has been withdrawn. Instead, the PML-N govt has decided to strengthen economy of Pakistan through self-sufficiency in power output required to start engine of growth through industrial revival, the minister added.
