Regional NAB offices: special panel to be set up to finalise pending cases: NAB chief
Chairman NAB Chaudhry Qamar Zaman has decided to constitute a special committee to finalise all pending cases with Regional NABs offices. The committee, headed by the Deputy Chairman and consists of the Additional Prosecutor General Accountability (APGA), Director General (Operations), and two other DGs, will start functioning immediately after Eid holidays and ensure expeditious disposal of all cases pending for over three years.
For cases pending for less than three years, Chairman directed that DGs of all regional NABs would also ensure their expeditious disposal. While chairing briefings on Awareness and Prevention (A&P) division, Training and Evaluation Wing and Media Wing of NAB, Chairman NAB said that enforcement is one aspect which has been associated with NAB whereas awareness and prevention should also be emphasised.
Chairman was apprised that under the Prevention and Procurement regimes, from March 2012 to August 2013, NAB Awareness and Prevention (A& P) has intervened in 509 projects and procurements amounting to Rs 1,672 billion saving more than Rs 300 billion possible losses to the national exchequer.
Chairman reiterated that all the NAB employees should rest assured that their grievances and problems would be addressed promptly and on merit. He said that new recruited work force should be groomed as assets for the organisation and they must be given special attention during specialised trainings during their attachment with regional NABs. Career advancement is an integral part of any officer's life. However, officers need to be groomed and imparted training before being considered for promotion; on lines similar to those laid down for bureaucrats in other government services. Taking note of a media report on the absence of the NAB prosecutor from court proceedings, Chairman took necessary disciplinary action.
