Pursuant to the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the provincial health department finalised necessary arrangements to provide efficient medical cover to people round the clock during Eidul Azha holidays. Sources in the health department told Business Recorder that doctors and para-medical staff had been assigned duties in all public sector hospitals across the province for Eid holidays.
Sufficient stock of life saving drugs have been provided while it has been ensured that medical instruments are in working order, the sources said, adding: "Fully equipped ambulances with trained staff would also be made available." Sources in Mayo Hospital Lahore said doctors and staff had been assigned duties in the Mayo Hospital to ensure 24 hours' availability of medical facilities to the people during Eidul Azha holidays. Emergency duty roaster and Emergency Crisis Management Plan had been displayed at the offices of Director Emergency and DMS (Admn).
Punjab Minister for Health Khalil Tahir Sindhu directed health authorities to ensure provision of all diagnostic and treatment facilities for dengue patients in government hospitals during Eidul Azha holidays so that patients might not face any problem in the hospitals.
The Minister directed the Secretary Health to ensure that government hospitals remained fully functional during Eid holidays. He said that dengue counters in all public sector hospitals should also remain operational. He directed the Secretary that presence of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff was to be ensured so that the patients coming to the hospitals should not face any difficulty.
Moreover, while talking to a six-member delegation of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), the Health Minister said consultation with members of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) would continue for health sector reforms and provision of best medical facilities to the patients in government hospitals. He said that doctors were the backbone of the health delivery system and their proposals for the betterment of health sector were most important.
The PMA delegation was headed by President PMA Punjab Dr Ashraf Nizami, while its members included Dr Izhar Chaudhary, Dr Tanvir, Dr Kamran Saeed, Dr Ibrar Ashraf and Dr Qazi Fayyaz. The issues related to the promotions, transfer/posting of doctors of different cadres came under discussion during the meeting.
