The University Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) have launched joint BSc Programme in Food Engineering to produce trained food engineers at par with international standards. The programme is being run through video conferencing.
The launching ceremony of the programme was chaired by UAF Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. Agricultural University Rawalpindi, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad and UPM Processing and Food Engineering Department Head, Dr Yus Aniza Yousaf were guests of honour on the occasion. Dean Faculty of Agri Engineering Professor Dr Muhammad Iqbal and Khawaja Altaf Hussain also spoke on the occasion.
Dr Yus Aniza Yousaf said that the joint efforts will help address the issues related to food in the both countries. She said that both institutions were putting their best to produce the trained manpower to cater the demand of the industry. She hoped that the ties between the institutions would be more strengthened. She called for conducting the fruitful research work in the area to tackle emerging food industry challenges. She also highlighted the importance of food engineering in the modern era.
Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that world is becoming the global village. We should get the benefit from the technological advancement. He said that the country can earn heavy foreign exchange by giving value addition to our food. He viewed that Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) method was getting popularity across the world. He added that UAF is actively working on making lectures available on the internet so that the students can get benefit from it. He said that in a year, the UAF has launched 32 new programmes in order to giving the professional education.
Professor Dr Rai Niaz said that Pakistan was facing the issue of quality production that must be addressed. He said that the Malaysia had proved the world regarding their expertise in the quality production. Professor Dr Muhammad Iqbal said the UAF is offering five BS programmes in engineering including Agricultural Engineering, Energy System Engineering, Food Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Textile Technology.
