Citizens advised to use energy-efficient appliances

The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Company Limited (SNGPL) has urged citizens to use efficient home appliances to save energy keeping in view the gas shortage in the country. During winter, the people should use appliances, especially geysers and room heaters as per requirement, said Shahid Akram, Chief Media Officer of SNGPL, while talking to APP on Sunday.
He said about 70 percent of energy was wasted because of inefficient appliances, particularly room heaters and geysers, causing huge loss of natural gas. He said the locally manufactured heaters and geysers were only 30 percent efficient, while in the western countries their efficiency was up to 88 percent. Major reason for loss of energy is poor designing and sub-standard material used in manufacturing of geysers, burners, gas retainers and insulation medium of water tanks, he added. He said the loss of energy could be avoided by manufacturing energy efficient appliances following international standards and procedures. He said that to avoid excessive gas bills, consumers should turn off room heaters and geysers before going to bed and restart them early in the morning.
