US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday and discussed bilateral co-operation. The meeting is part of a series of interactions between top United States officials and Prime Minister Sharif, who is due to meet President Barack Obama to discuss a broad range of co-operative ties on Wednesday.
Ahead of the White House meeting, Nawaz Sharif will also discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations with Vice President Joseph Biden. Pakistani leaders are urging the country''s friends in the international community to invest in the energy sector to help Islamabad meet its exponential development requirements. Nawaz is also scheduled to address a gathering of prominent American business leaders during his four-day US visit. Meanwhile, US Trade Representative Michael Froman called on Prime Minister and discussed ways to enhance bilateral co-operation.
Froman is one of the key United States cabinet members, who are meeting the Prime Minister ahead of White House discussions with President Obama Wednesday, as the two sides take up a wide agenda to strengthen bilateral co-operation in economic and security areas. During his meetings, Nawaz Sharif has been highlighting the need for expanding the relationship in trade and investment areas. The Prime Minister is assisted during the talks with US officials by Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani.
