Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Nandipur power project is of vital national importance but unfortunately this splendid project remained suspended for two and a half years. He said that if the former government gave precedence to national interest, the project would have been become operational two years back and load shedding would have reduced. He said that NAB should recover looted money as well as profit from the plunderers.
Shahbaz said this after a briefing during his visit to Nandipur power project near Gujranwala on Tuesday. The CM paid a detailed visit to the under construction Nandipur power project and inspected its various sections. He was given a briefing on the pace of work on the power project.
Shahbaz directed that the work on this national project be further accelerated so that it could start producing electricity as soon as possible. Speaking on the occasion, he said that every effort is being made to complete this project of national importance as soon as possible as delay in its execution has already caused a huge loss to the country for which the former rulers are responsible.
He said that NAB should take notice of delay in the completion of Nandipur power project. Shahbaz said that Pakistan has faced financial loss of billions of rupees due to delay in several power projects and this situation cannot be tolerated any longer. Shahbaz said that a request has been made to the engineers of Chinese company working on the project to complete it at the earliest.
He said that the project would cost 329 million dollars and would produce 425 megawatt electricity. The CM also met senior officials of Dong Feng Electric Power Company on this occasion. Three Vice Presidents of the Chinese company including Ham Zhiqiao, Lan Zehai and Zhang Courong also participated in the meeting. Earlier, Shahbaz went to the residence of a three-year-old child Ahmad Raza Mustafa in Pipliwala, Gujranwala who was killed by the kite string and condoled with the bereaved family.
The deceased child was the son of a poor vendor and was the only brother of six sisters. Issuing instructions for immediate suspension of DSP and investigation officer, he directed police authorities to arrest the accused within 48 hours. He said that administration and police are responsible for the implementation of the ban on kite flying and administration and police of the concerned area would be held responsible if any such incident occurred in future.
