58 percent of population in the grip of food insecurity: UAF

"Around 50 percent of women and children are facing malnutrition and 58 percent of total population is in the grip of food insecurity in the country," said University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan.
He was addressing the concluding session of a three-day international conference on Emerged Issues in Nutrition and Food Safety arranged by the National Institute of Food Science and Technology (UAF).
The VC suggested that concerted multi-sector nutrition efforts were needed to address mother and child health and nutrition problems. Dr Ibrahim from Halal Food Research Centre Thailand said Thailand was playing its due role in the promotion of the Halal food across the globe. "The world has huge potential of Halal food market. Pakistan can earn heavy foreign exchange by focusing on the field." Professor Dr Faqeer Anjum said the population of Pakistan was increasing at a fast pace. He urged scientists and all stakeholders to play their role in that regard. Dr Aurang Zeb presented the recommendations of the conference.
