Kanwal, the wife of Muhammad Sikandar whose gun-totting action brought the federal capital to a complete standstill for over five hours near Parliament House on August 15, was released on bail from Adiala Jail on Wednesday. The Islamabad High Court (IHC), on October 8, granted bail to Kanwal, who was indicted by the Islamabad police for assisting her husband in a terrorist act, against a surety bond of Rs 200,000.
A division bench of IHC comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui and Justice Riaz Ahmad Khan heard the bail plea filed by co-accused Kanwal through her counsel, in which she had claimed that she had no link with the Islamabad firing case and that she was used by accused Sikandar at gunpoint. Police sources said the surety bond was deposited in the relevant court which issued her released order. Adiala Jail administration released her with her brother-in-law. Kanwal would have to appear in the court for statement on the next hearing, they said.
