A counter-kidnapping cell has been established in Peshawar. A notification to this effect was issued by the office of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at Central Police Office (CPO) Peshawar here on Wednesday. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tariq Habib has been posted as Incharge of the Cell, which will directly work under the supervision of IGP.
The Cell will remain in close contact round-the-clock with the officers performing duties in the tribal areas to effectively put an end to the menace of kidnapping for ransom. In case of any untoward incident, officers posted in the tribal belt will be directly contacted for quick response against kidnappers. The Cell has also been given the authority of directly collecting mobile data of any cellular phone. The GSM locater facility would also be extended to the cell very soon. Meanwhile, five SHOs and five other officers have been suspended on charges of corruption and incompetence.
