ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Railways has inducted 145 new and upgraded locomotives during last four years and total number of its locomotives strength has reached 468 mark.
As per details, 27 HGMU-30 new and upgraded locomotives were added to Pakistan Railways fleet during 2014-17, 29 ZCU-20 locomotives were inducted during 2014 to 2015, 34 ZCU/ZCUP-30 were added during 2015 and 55 GEU-40 locomotives were inducted during 2017.
A data issued on Tuesday showed that Pakistan Railways currently owns 468 locomotives and 1820 coaches (bogies). Out of 468 locomotives, 145 locomotives are almost new, having been inducted during 2014-17 period.
Of the total 468 locomotives, 136 are non-functional whereas 563 coaches out of 1820 are non-functional at present.
As regard passenger coaches, 175 coaches were put in operation in 2002, 202 in 2014 while remaining 1443 coaches were mostly introduced years back.
