The Ambassador of Denmark, Jesper Moller Sorensen, has said that Pakistan is playing very important role in the global war against terrorism. Speaking at the inaugural session of the 7th Regional Workshop for Police Officers, Prosecutors and Judges in South Asia on Effectively Countering Terrorism, he said that Pakistan is a key player in this region and in the global fight against terrorism.
"We are very aware of this, and we support Pakistan. That is why Denmark has expanded its support to Pakistan through a stabilisation programme that addresses the challenges which are important to peace, security, and prosperity in this region. We are also supporting the long-term development in Pakistan through our programme. In fact, we will launch the next phase of our development co-operation programme next week here in Islamabad," Sorensen said.
Police officers, prosecutors and judges from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will discuss the role of the police, prosecutors and judges in leading effective investigations and prosecution, and exchanging best practices at the national level and how to promote pragmatic regional co-operation. The regional workshop is jointly hosted by the Government of Pakistan and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, and organised by the Centre on Global Counterterrorism Co-operation, with the financial support of the Government of Denmark, Australia and the United States of America.
