The death anniversary of Khawaja Khurshid Anwar, a legendry music director in the film history of the sub-continent is being observed on October 30. Born on March 21‚ 1912 in Mianwali, Khawaja Khurshid Anwar died at the age of 72 on October 30‚ 1984 in Lahore after a protracted illness. Throughout his 43 year's long film career‚ Khawaja Khurshid Anwar composed music in only 31 films.
His father Khawaja Ferozuddin Ahmad was a well-known Barrister settled in Lahore‚ who had a love for music so much so that he had a huge collection of gramophone records of Indian classical and neo-classical music and his precocious son had an unhindered access to them all.
Khurshid Anwar was also a brilliant student at Government College‚ Lahore. In 1935‚ he topped in the Masters in Philosophy. In 1939‚ he joined All-India Radio's Delhi Station as in charge of the classical music section‚ where he worked with other famous name like writer Krishen Chandar. Khawaja sahib produced many memorable classical and light classical music programmes at the Delhi Radio Station. In India‚ Khurshid Anwar composed music for 10 films‚ in two of which Parakh and Yateem‚ he shared the honours with Saraswati Devi and Dutta Korgaonker‚ respectively.
