Former president Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Hamid Khan has said that the SCBA has always been hijacked by certain elements and groups to use the forum for their vested interests. He was speaking to lawyers during a programme held here at Peshawar High Court on Monday regarding the upcoming SCBA elections.
He said that though lawyers also had political affiliation, the Bar should always be kept away from politics. He said that there were certain members of the community, who had been used by the respective governments for several years. "Lawyers should free themselves from this nestle, which can only be possible by forging unity among the community members," he added. He said that the Professional Group of Lawyers would contest the upcoming elections under the agenda of independence of judiciary, rule of law and justice.
