Former president and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari will hold an important meeting of party leadership in the city tomorrow to discuss the upcoming local bodies' elections. Reliable sources said Asif Zardari will be in city to revive party activities in the province of Punjab, a long standing pledge with party workers. It may be noted that Asif Zardari has been assuring the Punjab party workers to spend time in Lahore since his days of presidency.
His last assurance was communicated to the party workers a few days before his departure from the presidency. Interestingly, he had reached to Bilawal House on the eve of his departure from the presidency but left immediately, the same night, to attend oath-taking ceremony of new President Mamnoon Hussain.
Hopes are high on the part of party workers that Zardari will spend enough time in Bilawal House Lahore to appease them and streamline party affairs in the province, where the PPP has witnessed unprecedented defeat in May 11 elections. However, the hopes remained unmet for long until the latest decision of Zardari to make a comeback in Punjab.
Party sources said he will hold important meetings with senior leadership and try to mitigate their differences ahead of elections for local bodies likely to take sooner than later in Punjab. It is worth noting that the PPP's opposition leader in the National Assembly had also visited Punjab ahead of Eid to end differences in party line in the district of Faisalabad.
