Former president of Supreme Court Bar Association, Asma Jahangir, has said the present procedure for appointment of judges in higher judiciary is not based on merit. Talking to media at Lahore High Court here Monday Asma urged Judicial Commission to adopt recommendations of Pakistan Bar Council in this regard. She further said that the Chief Justices of high courts should not take suo motu notices as the Constitution did not allow them such action.
She also suggested that right of appeal should be available against the decisions of Supreme Court in addition to right of review. She was of the view that common citizens were not being provided justice by the courts.
