Talks with Taliban: Khurshid criticises government for not having any strategy
Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah has said that government has no strategy to hold talks with the Taliban and it is the major reason of delay in this regard. Talking to media persons here on Monday, Syed Khurshid Shah said that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) say that they did not accept the constitution of the country then under what circumstances, conditions and rules will the government hold peace talks.
Khurshid Shah said that without stopping drone strikes, it was not possible to initiate peace talks. Ending drone attacks is the among the top list demands of Taliban, he added. He also vowed to oppose the privatisation of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) from all platforms. He thanked the prime minister for taking notice over his letter regarding implementation of decision made in the All Parties Conference (APC) in consensus with all stakeholders.
Khurshid Shah said that Nawaz, through a letter also sought co-operation regarding "Protection of Pakistan Ordinance 2013". The opposition leader said that he has contacted his legal advisors over the issue. However, he slammed the Punjab government for holding local bodies elections on non-party basis, saying the ruling PML-N proves itself of being remnants of dictator Zia-ul-Haq. The opposition leader said that superior judiciary wants early local government elections in the country, but it has not yet taken up opposition's petition against the holding of LG polls on non-party basis.
