Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak reminded the opposition of the 'loot and plunder' committed during the previous government and 'conversion' of the Chief Minister's House into a 'stock exchange'. Responding to the criticism of his government by the opposition lawmakers, he asked them to think before raising fingers at the government.
Speaking during Assembly's session, the chief minister alleged that the previous rulers had made corruption's records and deputed SMS (Syed Masoom Shah) in the Chief Minister's House for selling employments and contracts and massively violated merit in transfer and posting of government officials. Citing the 'disclosures' of senior Awami National Party (ANP) leader Azam Khan Hoti, wherein he accused ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan of receiving billions of dollars for the US, he claimed that the ANP leaders during their government had been indulged in rampant corruption.
The chief minister recalled that the ANP-led government had stopped his developmental funds when he left the government some two years ago, asking the opposition legislators to wait for their turn. He said people had rejected them in the general elections and voted PTI and its allies to power for solution of their problems.
Soon after the chief minister concluded his fiery speech against the opposition, Speaker Asad Qaisar adjourned the session till Tuesday (today), prompting the joint opposition to protest against what they termed the unparliamentarily and undemocratic language of the chief executive of the province. The opposition lawmakers also criticised the chair for his 'partial' attitude, saying that it was their right to respond to the chief minister's accusations but the Speaker deprived them of the opportunity.
Terming the chief minister language abusive, the opposition member said that they would respond to the allegations in the next session of the house. Talking to reporters, the parliamentary leader of PML-N Sardar Aurangzeb Nalota, Sardar Hussain Babak of ANP and Nighat Orakzai of PPP deplored that the chief minister used derogatory language against the opposition.
They said that the chief minister levelled serious allegations against their parties but he did not show some courage to listen to them. They posed a question to Khattak saying that as to why he kept mum and did not raise these questions when he was part of the previous ANP-led government. Nighat Orakzai claimed that she had proofs how the chief minister got his son-in-law elected as senator.
Earlier, the joint opposition including Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl's (JUI-F) Lutfur Rehman, Syed Mufti Janan, Shah Hussain and Sardar Hussain Babak in their separate speeches criticised the government for not honouring its commitment with them regarding release of development funds. They accused the government of allocating funds only to the constituencies of the treasury members. Responding to the opposition criticism, provincial minister for communications and works Yousuf Ayub said that the government wanted transparency and that was why it stopped the practice of releasing development funds to the MPAs including treasury members. He said they would soon hire consultant to ensure transparency in utilisation of development funds.
