KARACHI: Asif Jooma, Managing Director, Abbott Laboratories (Pakistan) Limited has been elected as President of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OICCI). The Managing Committee of OICCI in its meeting on October 12, 2012 also elected Kimihide Ando, General Manager Pakistan, Mitsubishi Corporation as Vice President.
Asif Jooma has been engaged in the corporate sector since 1983 having worked for ICI Pakistan Limited prior to joining Abbott in 2007. He has been past President, American Business Council and is a Director on the Board of various companies including Board of Investment, Government of Pakistan.
Kimihide Ando joined Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan in 1982 and has worked in various countries including Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia and twice in Pakistan. His first tenure in Pakistan was 1998-2003, and his present tenure started from April 2010. He is also on the Boards of Engro Polymer & Chemicals Limited and Tri-Pack Films Limited.
Established over 150 years ago, OICCI is the oldest Chamber in the country. Its primary function is to foster a conducive, open and equitable business environment in Pakistan while facilitating transfer of best global practices in the country. OICCI with its 189 members representing some of the world’s leading multinational companies belonging to 33 countries and operating in 14 sectors of Pakistan economy is a premier body of multinationals operating in Pakistan. OICCI members contribute significantly to the total tax revenue of Pakistan, and provide direct employment to 150,000 people. Out of the current Top 25 companies listed at the Karachi Stock Exchange, 11 are OICCI members.
