Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) will support Directorate of Technical Education and Manpower Training (DoTEMT), Peshawar to enhance in-service teachers' capacity in machinist and electrician trades and will provide workshop equipment to the Government Technical Teachers Training Centre (GTTTC) at Peshawar as well as three other GTTTC in Peshawar, Haripur and Swat.
An agreement to this effect was signed here on Wednesday in Islamabad between JICA and the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Under the framework of JICA's co-operation for stabilisation and development of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border areas, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa requested JICA for a technical co-operation project to develop capacity of the government's technical and vocational centers to provide quality Technical and Vocation Education and Training (TVET) services whereby machinist and electrician courses were selected as the target training subjects.
In pursuance to the request mentioned above, JICA has undertaken a "Project for Capacity Development of Technical and Vocational Centers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa" through which 16 master trainers will be trained in the above mentioned trades. These master trainers will conduct Training of Trainers (TOT) across the province once they have acquired the necessary training as per latest trends in the industry. A team of JICA experts will give necessary technical advice and recommendations to DoTEMT, particularly GTTTC on any matters pertaining to the implementation of the Project.-PR
