The Fata Democratic Movement has called for tapping huge mineral and other natural resources potential in the country's tribal region. "Tribesmen are left at the mercy of terrorism and draconian Frontier Crime Regulatory (FCR) laws, as the Constitution is yet to be extended to Fata," said the Fata Democratic Movement Spokesman Gul Nawaz Khan in a statement on Sunday.
He blamed the political administration, politicians, and other relevant stakeholders for the miseries of tribesmen. "No representation has been given in the provincial assemblies to Fata, and the tribal region is being ignored in local bodies' elections," he added, terming it injustice with the people of Fata.
Nawaz said that education and health infrastructure had been badly damaged by militants' attacks. Despite the alarming situation, the media had been restricted from highlighting the issues of tribesmen, he added.
"A large number of innocent people are being arrested under the Collective Responsibility Act without citing any reasons and charges," he said.
He also alleged that the foreign development funds for Fata were also being misused by non-governmental organisations and local administration in tribal agencies. He observed that the tribal youth were working in foreign countries despite rich mineral and natural resources in Fata. "These resources should be properly utilised to generate employment opportunities in the tribal region as well as other parts of the country.
He urged the Prime Minister, Chief of Army Staff and Chief Justice of Pakistan to make serious efforts towards resolution of the issues being confronted by the tribal people.
