Special session on new developments and prospects of Islamic finance was organised by Mitsubishi Corporation on the last day of the conference on the New Horizons in Islamic Area Studies Encounters, Reflections and Collaborations jointly organised by Japan's National Institutes for the Humanities (NIHU) and Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, LUMS, on Monday.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Embassy of Japan in Pakistan, Pro-Chancellor LUMS Syed Babar Ali, CEO Bank Alfalah Limited Atif Bajwa were present on the occasion. Arif-ul-Islam Deputy CEO and executive director Meezan Bank Limited briefed the audience about the Islamic Banking in Pakistan. Among others who expressed their views were Suri Hanim Mohammad, Vice President / Manager Islamic Banking Department, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (Malaysia) Berhad, Masumi Hamahira Advisor Islamic Banking Department, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (Malaysia) Behad and General Manager for Pakistan Mitsubishi Corporation Kimihide Ando.
The closing session of the conference was on the study of Islam, humanities and social sciences in globalising era. Omar Faruk talked about the Islam as humanities in the contemporary world, Rehan Malik talked about the study of humanities for influencing social reforms in Pakistan, Kentaro Sato talked about Ibn Khaldun studies in Japan.
