Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was absolutely right in a policy statement that he delivered in the National Assembly. He stated that the mandate given to government by the APC had been jeopardised by the drone attack on Hakimullah Mehsud. There is no denying that drone attacks are creating enormous problems for Pakistan but United States is not realising the gravity of situation.
The situation underscores the need for the political and military leadership to sit together and formulate policy anew. Last but not least, political parties should be commended for showing unity towards peace talks, and demonstrating patience despite ongoing attacks. Of course, Army should be thanked for protecting the peace dialogue, despite a grave security situation that was developing.
