The Institute of Physics & Electronic, University of Peshawar (UoP) organised an annual research model exhibition here on Friday. During the annual exhibition, more than 25 scientific models were put on display, prepared by both male and female students of the institute. Khyber Paktunkhwa Minister for Science & Technology, Shahram Tarakai formally inaugurated the day-long research exhibition.
The models included first sniffer system based on GSM, cell phone controlled cum obstacle detector cum LCD display, scrolling of SMS messages on a dot matrix display based on GSM, microcontroller based intelligent security code lock system, automatic traffic light density control system, small unmanned ground vehicle and security based semi-autonomous vehicle.
KP Minister was accompanied by Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Rasul Jan and Director of the Institute Dr Yasin Iqbal visited models and appreciated students' work. Addressing the audience Shahram Tarakai said that the creative work of the students showed that the province was equipped with latent talent yet of the unfavourable prevailing situations in the area.
Shahram Tarakia said that government of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa was committed in promotion state of art research culture in universities across KP so that the present wave of brain drain of excellent minds from the province and FATA was stopped. Minister went further to add that due to lack of compatible job opportunities most of the countrymen were heading toward European and Middle Eastern countries in the past and the present government was fully committed to create suitable job opportunities for them.
VC Mohammad Rasul Jan in his address said that the university was not confined to produce more graduates but it is focusing more on research as well as outreach activities in order to build a knowledge based economy. He added that the varsity was committed to policy of complete impartiality and accountability. He also praised the initiative like Right to Information Bill of the incumbent government.
Earlier Director of Physics & Electronics in his inaugural remarks termed development of science and technology as in integral for the country's development. He added that institute had thirteen Ph.D facilities with diverse specialties. He underlined the need for use of modern technological equipment to explore untapped natural resources of KP and FATA.
